Safety Transportation System: Action has been taken against violators of traffic rules

Action has been taken against violators of traffic rules to be systematic and safety transportation system for the public, according to the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC).

Over 3,000 buses are operating daily in Yangon for 1.4 million of the YBS users. To provide better transportation system, actions are being taken against YBS drivers who fail to obey the traffic rules.

Joint Secretary, YRTC, Lyan Cin Mang, said " Action has been taken against 14 buses for overtaking one another in February. The buses which overtake one another and exceed speed limit are the major source oftraffic jam and accident. We observed all buses with telematics machines from Yangon Bus Operator and detained and seized them as necessary.We conducted discussions with about 500 drivers once a monthto follow the rules. We take action on them because we want them to take responsibility and follow the rules."

The current activities of YRTC were also explained by the Joint Secretary of YRTC.

Joint Secretary, YRTC, Lyan Cin Mang, said " In addition of telematics system, we comprised four teams with traffic police.In cooperation with them, we seized the bus drivers who drive carelessly and break the traffic regulations annually. Now, we are deploying our staff at 16 bus stations to remove cars and taxis parking at the bus stops. By doing like that, the buses can stop systematically at each bus stop.We also order them to watch over for the pick-pockets and to clear the traffic routes."

As a punishment, 30,000 Kyats was fined to bus drivers who crossed the red light. If the drivers crossed the red lights for three times, the company fired those drivers and they are not given permissions to drive again.
