Transportation Sector: 500 taxis to be installed with meter in pilot project

In Yangon Region, there are over 60,000 taxis providing transport service to commuters and passengers and 500 out of them will be installed with taximeter as a pilot project for the safety of passengers and to pay reasonable fares.

Joint Secretary, Lyan Cin Mang, YRTC, said " As taxis and vehicles have to run systematically, the taxis will be installed with meter, and the fares will be approved by the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC). Installing meter on taxis, we are now making a survey for reasonable fares both for passengers and taxi drivers."

CNG taxis and the taxis which are running to and from the Yangon International Airport will be prioritized in the taximeter installation pilot project. It’s reported the project will begin at the end of 2023.
