Power Generation: Wind power projects in Ann, Gwa and Thandwe Townships

Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaun Han, together with Rakhine State Minister for Natural Resources and party, inspected feasibility studies for generating electricity by wind power in Gwa Township on 12th March. Officials reported on the arrangements for implementation of wind power project in Ann, Gwa and Thadwe Townships.

In response to the reports, the Union Minister stressed that the transportation of project related equipment to the sites should be safe and durable. He instructed to upgrade the project approached road as well as the power lines and sub-stations with potential power generation in future. The Union Minister also stressed to carry out the implementations of the work for long run. He also urged to make cooperative efforts for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program focusing on education, healthcare, and transportation for the benefits of local community.

He also instructed that Rakhine State has a lot of wind power resources and it is necessary to expand the project in future. Afterwards, the Union Minister and party inspected installation of wind speed measuring devices (Anemometers) in order to collect and record data for generating electricity by wind power and the feasibility study sites. Gwa wind power project will be jointly implemented by three companies of Primus Advanced Technologies Limited (PRIMUS), Asia Ecoenergy Development Limited (AED) and Yunnan Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Co., Ltd.

The projects will be built in Gwa township of Rakhine state with a capacity of 100 megawatts and the annual production capacity will be 227.2 million kilowatt hours.  The first phase of the project in Gwa Township will start in December 2023 and it will generate 50 megawatt electricity.  The 3 wind power projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Electric Power in cooperattion with 3 companies under MOA agreement will be carried out in Ann, Gwa and Thandwe Townships of Rakhine State, and each project will generate 150 megawatt, 100 megawatt and 110 megawatt electricity respectively.

The projects are targeted to complete during the year 2025 and the generated power will be distributed to national grid through 230 KV power line. Then, the Union Minister and party visited 66/11 KV (10 MVA) power sub-station and inspected the   chosen sites for expansion of the project. The Union Minister also met with the staff and gave necessary assistance. The Union Minister and party also inspected Kyeintali creek near Kyeintali where the Department of Hydropower Implementation is conducting the feasibility study for water resources and gave necessary instructions.
