UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Saturday slammed big economies for causing climate catastrophes while least developed nations face the consequences. Speaking in a summit for the least developed countries taking place in Doha, Guterres pointed out that poor nations are stuck in a "perfect storm" of poverty and injustice.

The summit precedes 'UN Conference on Least Developed Countries’ (LDC5) taking place between 5 - 9 March in Qatar. The summit is held every decade. It was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Guterres called out the "historic injustice of an equal COVID-19 response," that affected the poor nations. The UN chief slammed the global financial system for its flawed design that benefits rich nations while leaving poor countries behind.
