Pulse and Beans Market: Myanmar receives over 1.5 billion USD within 30 years

Myanmar is an Agri-based country and emphasis the export of agricultural produce as the majority items to earn income for the businesses and state. Myanmar produce and export agricultural produce such as pulses, beans and sesame to the foreign markets through sea trade and border gates.

Myanmar mainly cultivates the black bean and mung bean in lower Myanmar regions and usually cultivates pigeon pea in upper Myanmar regions, according to an official of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). 

Dr. Myo Lwin, Chairman, UMFCCI, said " Around 700,000 tons of black grams, around 500,000 tons of mung beans and about 200,000 tons of pigeon bean has produced this year. There are also produced a various kinds of beans and pulses in Myanmar. Pulses and beans are usually harvest from February to April.  Black bean and pigeon pea are primarily exported to India and have good prices. Golden mung bean is the most popular and highest price in the market. Myanmar pulses can catch the attention of the foreign market because of the less usage of fertilizer usage in cultivation. "

Myanmar pigeon pea and black grams are mostly exports to India and mung bean are exports to EU and China markets, according to an official of Myanmar pulses, beans, maize and sesame seeds Merchants Association (MPBSMA).

Soe Win maung, Adviser, MPBSMA, said " In the previous years, Myanmar has exported around 1.5 billion tons of pulses and beans to foreign markets. In 2020-2021 fiscal years, more than 2 million tons of beans and pulses have able to export. Both production and exports sector of Myanmar beans market gave improved significantly."

If the relevant departments and organizations work together, the exports sector will more improve and penetrate the international market, according to an official of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). 

Dr. Myo Lwin, Chairman, UMFCCI, said " All relevant departments are including in Myanmar pulses exports sector.  Ministry of Commerce issues license, country of origin and set the regulations.  The Ministry of Agriculture issues pest-free certificate and Ministry of Planning and Finance and taxes department have verify the authenticity of the custom parts. We also cooperate with the banks for foreign income. "

In Myanmar, the production and exporting of pulses and beans are significantly improved and received more than 1.5 billion within 30 years.
