Cuba sends medical team to Türkiye and Syria

Health Minister Jose Angel Portal said goodbye Friday night to 32 doctors, nurses and technicians as they prepare to fly to Türkiye and Syria to assist people after earthquake this week. The group participated in missions in Guatemala, Bolivia, Mexico and Chile, as well as in Sierra Leone, among other destinations.

The team of 32 health professionals includes 11 doctors and are expected to be deployed in one of the most affected areas in the southwest of Türkiye along the border with Syria. The brigade has worked in earthquakes, during the Ebola epidemic and more recently to help more than 20 countries -from Italy to South Africa- in the areas most affected by COVID-19, reinforcing local health systems, normally collapsed in the face of the contingency.

The Eurasian nation supported Cuba in its recent energy crisis with agreements and for the rental of floating barges that are supporting the production of electric current here.
