Turkish President RecepTayyip Erdogan called an earthquake which struck the country on Monday, "the worst disaster of the century since the 1939 Erzincan earthquake."

The powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked wide swaths of Turkey and Syria early Monday, toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 1,900 people.Erdogan said offers for help had been received from some 45 countries in the aftermath of Monday’s deadly earthquake and powerful, still ongoing aftershocks.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says authorities are preparing to send aid and assistance to Turkey following the deadly earthquake there.  The German government also sent its condolences to the victims of the earthquake.
