Venezuela baseball fans hail return of tournament

After an almost 10-year absence from Venezuela's stadiums, the Caribbean Series baseball tournament returned to Caracas on Thursday to a brand new arena. Political turmoil and a severe economic crisis had kept Latin America's top international baseball competition from being held in the country since 2014.

The 65th edition of the Caribbean Series, being held from February 2 to 10, has eight teams, A laser display and fireworks marked the opening ceremony at Caracas' Simon Bolivar Monumental Stadium, a new, luxurious venue built to fit the occasion. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro attended the game and watched from the presidential box.
