Electoral campaigning for Tunisia's second round of elections was ending on Friday, leading to a period of electoral silence until Sunday 29 January, when voters will go to the polls. The election will include 131 electoral districts in which 262 candidates are running. The reluctance of Tunisians to vote follows a previous parliament and a deepening economic, social and political crisis.

The first round of legislative elections took place on December 17 and turnout was recorded at around 11.22 percent, the lowest since the 2011 revolution that toppled the former president's regime Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, and paved the way for a democratic transition in the region.
