Lifeless lion showcased by angry zoo owner in front of Chile's presidential palace

A Chilean zoo owner placed a dead lion's body at the entrance of Santiago's presidential palace on Friday as part of a protest against microchipping animals. Los Angeles Zoo owner claimed that the country's Agriculture and Livestock agency (SAG) ordered the zoo's vets to sedate and install a microchip into the 14-year-old animal.

During that procedure on Thursday, the lion, Zeus, died. He said that "the SAG forced us through a resolution to sedate all the animals we had in the zoo." In a statement, SAG said that the sedation of animals is a standard procedure to develop a safe screening process. The protest prompted police officers to close an area around the palace.
