The Central Census Commission on 2024 Population and Housing Census held its 1st coordination meeting on Friday afternoon.
In this meeting at the Ministry of Immigration and Population, Patron of the Commission Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win highlighted the importance of census for a country regarding development projects, budgets, healthcare, transport and many other sectors.
After the 1983 census, the census could not be taken for 30 years due to various reasons. Based on the 1983 census, there were some weaknesses in the availability and use of socio-economic data, including population. It was only in 2014 that the census of population and household contents was successfully conducted nationwide.
A census must be taken in order to create a true and disciplined multi-party democracy and a union based on democracy and federal system. Census is also needed for policies, strategies and development projects and many other services for the public, the Vice Senior General added.
Also, Chairman of the Commission Union Minister U Myint Kyaing explained the 2024 Population and Housing Census collection plans. And, attendees made discussions on matters including formation of committees and the collection plans.
