Measures for rural development: Rural Dev’t Supervisory Committee holds meeting

The Rural Development Supervisory Committee held its 3rd work coordination meeting at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development on Tuesday.

At the event, Chairman of the Committee Union Minister U Hla Moe said that 70 percent of the country population lives in rural areas and the State Administration Council is implementing for narrowing development gap between urban and rural areas as well as regions and sates, harmonious development and poverty reduction by adopting future work programs.

The Committee is also undertaking for rural development and poverty alleviation with added momentum in line with the MSDP and RDSF. In doing so, the cooperative tasks based on agriculture and livestock, small scale industries and promoting rural living standard are being undertaken to be developed more.

The Union Minister called for providing inputs and capitals, conducting research and market connection in order to produce more value-added products, capacity enchancement for the organizations of rural community in addition to development of rural basic infrastructures and vocational tasks. Vice Chairman of the Committee Deputy Minister urged the Committee members to cooperate more for meeting the national socio-economic development goals based on the existing structure.

The Director General of Department of Rural Development reported completion of rural development tasks and plans to coordinate wth the Ministries in respective sectors. In regard with rural development tasks in 2022-2023 fiscal year, the Department of Rural Development implemented 14 rural electrification projects, 2,043 rural water supply tasks, 817-mile rural product roads and 1,194 bridges, 77 rural housings, 787 projects of establishing model villages, 174 units of rural economic establishment projects and Emerald green projects, public-approach projects in 6 townships and cash for work projects, conducting trainings and extended cultivation of edible oil crops.
