Fisheries Products Export: Total of 19.202 million USD already earned this year

In producing and exporting fisheries products, Thaninthayi region outnumbers other regions in Myanmar. Fisheries products from Thaninthayi region is mainly exported through 3 boarder gates. From April to December 2022, fisheries products were exported over 150,000 tonnes to abroad- it earned over 180 million USD.   

Region Head Officer, Fisheries Department (Taninthayi Region), Aung Nyi Toe said "May, June and July are non-fishing months so, exporting amount is reduce during these months. We export about up to 70 species of fisheries products among them, 3 species of shrimps and other species such as oysters and octopus are included.  Shrimps are being farmed with modern technology in Thaninthayi region and have been exported over 40,000 tonnes- it earned 14 million USD. Similarly, in soft shell crabs exporting, it earned 3.8 million USD in over 400 tonnes. "

Region Head Officer of Fisheries Department (Taninthayi Region) also added that in exporting and farming Anadara Granosa is becoming popular in Thaninthayi region and farming acres are increased to 7,000 this year. And then, over 560 tonnes have been exported- it earned 0.834 million USD. This year, total of 19.202 million USD have already earned from exporting. There are 20 agent companies in Kawthaung and exported fisheries products to abroad through these agent companies, it’s learnt.

In Thaninthayi region, shrimp farming is booming and have been exported over 5,400 tonnes with 14 million USD. Fisheries products from Thaninthayi region are exported to abroad through Htee Khee border gate in Dawi, Maw Taung boarder gate in Myeik and fisheries products are directly exported by fishing vessels through Kawthaung-Ranong border gates.
