Border Trade with Bangladesh: Trading via Sittwe and Maungdaw border posts

In 2022, regular trade has been carried out at Sittwe and Maungdaw border trading posts in Rakhine State and trade volume of more than 19 million USD via Maungdaw border post and more than 120 million USD of trade volume via Sittwe border post has been made. Marine and Agricultural products were mainly traded.

Advocate General, Rakhine State Government, U Hla Thein, said " Regarding with the border trade in Rakhine State, there are 2 border trade ports; Sittwe and Maungdaw and regular trade has been carried out since 2022. According to the statistics, more than 19 million USD as export and more than 0.07 million as import through Maungdaw border trade station and more than 64 million USD as export and more than 56 million USD as import have been traded."

The marine products such as raw fish, dried fish and the agricultural products such as ginger and other fruits have been mainly exported and some products such as automobile tires has to be imported via Bangladesh.

As for trade, since there are many exports, the border trade stations of Rakhine State are beneficial for Myanmar.
