Lapland in Finland is having a record tourism season this Christmas as tourists flock back to the holiday destination after two successive winters disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
At least 63,600 visitors are expected to travel to Rovaniemi, the regional capital, this December. The previous record was December 2019 when the city welcomed 61,000 tourists.
Sanna Kärkkäinen, CEO, Visit Rovaniemi said “Well for Lapland we definitely expect now a very strong season. So the recovery post-pandemic has been faster than we expected and it's bigger than we expected in the number of travellers.”
Chris, Tourist from UK said “I’ve never felt cold like this before and I’ve really, really enjoyed that as an experience. It’s definitely helping to get in the Christmas spirit.”
On the outskirts of Rovaniemi, Santa Claus Village is one of Lapland’s most popular tourist sites. It attracts international travellers looking for some festive entertainment.
