Bass takes charge as LA mayor amid homeless crisis

New Mayor Karen Bass has declared a state of emergency over homelessness on her first full day in office. She said she would activate the city's emergency operations center to help get the homeless into shelter. She also vowed to build more housing for the homeless.

She also said that they will increase the scale and speed of the city's approach to homelessness by removing it from the traditional City Hall way of doing things Bass estimated that there were 40,000 homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
