Tourism Sector in Darpen of Hlegu township: Implementation to make new tourist destination place

Implementations are underway for the new tourist destination place in Darpen (a small town) of Hlegu township in Yangon region where locals earn for their living by making sculptures. Likewise, Dar Pain is located an hour drive away from Yangon and the visitors can see the art of sculptures along the road side to Dar Pain, so, it is one of the places where the international visitors are interested in and it can create more job opportunities for the locals.

Naung Naung Han, Chairman, Myanmar Travel Association, said " Darpen is famous for sculpture business. And also the locals are made up with sculptures business and earn money for their livelihood. The small town, Darpen is very appropriate to implement a new tourist destination place with the plans of the government. The sculptures from Darpen town are very exquisite creature of the sculptors. Likewise, most of the sculptors from this town won the awards in the competitions. That’s why, the sculptures are ordered from abroad even with around 20 to 30 feet tall. As in local, the sculptures are ordered to decorate in the living rooms and to keep."

According to the chairman of the Myanmar Travel Association, there are about 600 skillful workers at the Darpen small town and the visitors can observe the work processes of creating beautiful sculptures. To make Darpen as a new tourist destination place, the cooperation of the government and other related associations are needed.

The chairman of the Myanmar Travel Association added that the visitors can visit safety and conveniently to Darpen if the government arranges the relevant permissions. And also the travelling companies should make the travelling packages and advertise to the international for this destination place.
