Crews clear snow after heavy storm in western NY

A travel-ban remains in effect on the south side of the city of Buffalo after a dangerous lake-effect snowstorm paralyzed parts of western and northern New York on Friday.

Mayor Byron Brown urged the public to remain indoors except for emergency travel due to the intensity of the storm.

The National Weather Service reported more than 2 feet of snow in many places along the eastern end of Lake Erie, with bands of heavier precipitation bringing nearly 34 inches in Hamburg, New York.

The worst snowfall so far was south of the city of Buffalo, where the driving ban is currently in place.Officials expect the storm to move and hit other parts of the city overnight, which will likely lead to a travel ban in those areas.
