Quito hosts Latin American drag artist convention

A Latin American Convention of Drag Arts began Thursday in Quito, bringing together artists from throughout the region to celebrate Andean traditions while promoting inclusion and respect and combating negative stereotypes.

Dressed in multicolored female traditional Andean costumes - also in LGBTIQ+ characteristic rainbow colours - the groups from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador danced and paraded across the city's old center.

The event, called "Diverse Hemispheres", claims to be the first of its kind in the region. Pablo Carvajal form Ecuadorian 'Colores' group said the feeling of being pioneers in organizing it is "indescribable".
