Ghana president on efforts to fix economic crisis

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has delivered an address to the nation to explain the steps his government is taking to see its way out of financial turmoil.

After months of economic pressure on his country, he pledged that Ghana would turn the "crisis into an opportunity" to fix both urgent problems and long-term structural challenges.

Ghana is in talks with the International Monetary Fund to reach a deal to help it steer a course through the difficulties brought on in part by a rise in world oil prices because of the Ukraine conflict.

In his half-hour address the president announced a raft of measures to shore up the economy, including measures to support domestic production.
