Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said Wednesday that the country will follow the guidelines requested by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to determine the viability of hosting again in the future.
Mexico hosted the Olympic Games in 1968. Since then, with the exception of Rio 2016, the event has been held in countries with more developed economies because of the various requirements asked to a host city.
Tokyo won the 2020 Olympics venue with a $7.3 billion bid. After that, the IOC modified regulations to try to keep interested hosts from spending as much, even though it is uncertain how that model will work.
