For the first time since Cuba relaxed laws on private industries, U.S. and Cuban investors held a meeting on Wednesday to explore business possibilities.
Nearly 25 representatives of tech, transport and agro businesses from the U.S. attended the forum in Havana.
Phil Peters, Partner of Focus Cuba Consulting said "The new thing that is important for a lot of us to find out is about the development in Cuba's private sector. That's what is really different. Cuba has these businesses that have been here for more than 20 years. Now that they have now constituted themselves legally, as businesses, that gives them a lot of possibilities to operate within the Cuban economy when they couldn't before, including the possibility of associating with a foreign investor."
The U.S. has led for decades a policy of international economic sanctions against Cuba that spans over a range of products except for food, which is still subject to strict financial controls resulting in high prices.
