Out-going Premier Mario Draghi passed a small bell to Italy's newly elected Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in the traditional handover ceremony in Rome.
Following the ceremony, an honor guard in the courtyard of Palazzo Chigi, the Prime Minister's office, gave Draghi his final farewell as colleagues waved to him from the windows.
Meloni held her first cabinet meeting after the ceremony. Meloni was sworn in on Saturday as Italy's first far-right premier since the end of World War II and the first woman to lead the government.
Her Brothers of Italy party was the top vote-getter in last month's national election. Her center-right coalition allies include the right-wing leader party lead by Matteo Salvini and the conservative Forza Italia party headed by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi.
