Petro Tours Hurricane-Hit areas

Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday toured neighbourhoods in San Andres Island that had been impacted by Hurricane Julia.

It lashed the island after strengthening from a tropical storm on Saturday. After gaining power throughout the day, Julia's maximum sustained winds had stabilised around 75 mph late on Saturday, just over the threshold for a Category 1 hurricane, the US National Hurricane Center said.

Officials on San Andres imposed a curfew for residents at 6am on Saturday to limit people in the streets.

Julia hit there as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, though its winds had dipped to tropical storm force of 50 mph, by late afternoon as it pushed across Nicaragua.
