For summer paddy growers to cultivate and produce smoothly as well as to increase per-acre yield, growing 850,000 acres of summer paddy with contract farming system will be implemented in 2022-2023 summer paddy season.

It will be beneficial for the farmers to obtain good quality of summer paddy strains for increasing per-acre yield and to get quality fertilizers with right price which are needed for the farmers.

Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, U Ye Min Aung, said “ In other words, the yield of summer paddy is higher. The major aim is increasing per-acer yield for the farmers. We have the guidance of the state level officials; to produce good-quality rice and sell in domestic and foreign markets. When doing contract farming system, it is important to look at quality control and quality improvement including the increase of production.”

He added that while only using the Pale fertilizer, it is not assured to get good-quality products of crop. So, they’ve planned to use the additional compound fertilizer. For contract framing system to work on 850,000 acres, there are the companies doing import business, farming business and fertilizer manufacturers; a total of 41 till to date.

At the same time, there are three groups such as companies and rice millers group, farmers group and fertilizer group to conduct work implementation process effectively.

Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, U Ye Min Aung, said “ The farmers group needs to report what the farmers need like the strains and fertilizers. The group between companies and rice millers has to work the additional processes like drying, grinding the paddy gained from the farmers and sell and will pay back the disbursed loan. And the fertilizer group will arrange the suitable fertilizers needed for the farmers and sell. These three groups have to put collaborative effort.”

This tripartite collaborative effort is going to implement through monitoring by working together between department of agriculture, ministry of cooperatives and rural development, Myanmar Rice Federation and concerned departments, it’s learnt.
