Blinken, Petro talk security, peace accord in Bogota

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Monday in Bogota. Both spoke about the relationship between the two countries and how they can work together to combat security concerns as well and inequalities.

Petro has said he wants to start peace talks with the nation's remaining armed groups in an effort to reduce violence in rural areas and bring lasting peace to the nation of 50 million people.

A 2016 peace deal between the government and the nation’s largest guerrilla army, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, helped to reduce kidnappings, homicides and forced displacement.
