Historic Site: Ancient buildings in Pathein Tsp under maintenance

In Pathein township of Ayeyarwaddy region, there are numerous ancient buildings to be observed.

Since the preservation of around hundred years and above Buddhist temples, colonial buildings and ancient buildings has been conducted in Pathein Township, the ancient buildings inside the Pathein district general administration department are also under maintenance works.

Those ancient buildings inside the Pathein district GAD compound were built in 1865 and on 5.45 acres of land, located at the land plot 64 in No.4 ward, Pathein Township. They are still in use since from the beginning.

Head (District Branch Dept), Win Thu, Pathein General Administration Department said "It is found that, the current our office building inside the department was built in 1865. The first-floor was built up with bricks and the second with wood. It is 103 feet in length, 51 feet in width, 30 feet in high and 5,253 square feet. In the past, it was the building with brick tiles roof, but passing many years, due to the damages, iron sheets were replaced in 1998."

The next two 157 years old building was also built in 1865. The one was used as township/district administrative office, and as well as the east Pathein council office in the past. The other one was used as book registration office and district general administration training school in the past.

Head (District Branch Dept), Win Thu, Pathein General Administration Department said "City office is located behind our department’s office building. It is learnt that, it was opened for east Pathein city office. But now it has been closed as the office was moved to Kangyidaunt Township. The other one called education office in the past now opened for district general administration meeting room no. 2 and traffic police office. "

The ancient buildings inside the Pathein General Administration Department were built with very thick brick walls and strong work designs. Ancient materials are also preserved well, it’s learnt.
