Sport Sector: U-16 football tournament in Shan State

The 2022 Shan State Chief’s Cup U-16 football tournament kicked off on Monday evening in Taunggyi.

In the opening ceremony at the State sports ground, Chief Minister Dr. Kyaw Tun stressed that the tournament is to raise the standard of football in Shan State, to bring out new generations of footballers and talented ones, to develop and spread the sport of football and to get unity among young people.

On this 1st day of the tournament, the Theinni Township team beat the Kengtung Township team 3-2. This tournament till October 5 includes 3 teams from the southern Shan State, 3 teams from the northern Shan State and 2 teams from the eastern Shan State. From this tournament, footballers will be selected for the Shan State team to compete in the state/region U-16 football tournament.
