Crews are lifting the wreckage of a floatplane that crashed in Puget Sound, Washington on September 4, killing ten people. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash which occurred off Whidbey Island. One body was recovered before the initial search was suspended. Only small pieces of debris were found immediately after the crash, partly because of the current and the depth of water in the area. The bulk was somewhere in or near the estimated 150- to 200-feet deep shipping channel where it crashed. The plane was heading from Friday Harbor to the Renton Municipal Airport when it crashed about 20 minutes into the flight.
