Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the first such meeting since 2008, Lapid's office said late Tuesday.  The meeting comes shortly after Israel announced the appointment of a new ambassador to Turkiye earlier this week — the latest sign of warming relations between the two countries following more than a decade-long rift.Once-warm relations began to deteriorate after the election of Erdogan, an outspoken critic of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. In a sign of rapprochement, Israel's president visited Turkiye to meet with Erdogan.
