
President Joe Biden's choice for the U.S. ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Yohannes Abraham, was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, DC Monday.
The association, better known as ASEAN, includes 10 countries in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei and Laos. Biden nominated Abraham to the post this spring and he was confirmed by a voice vote in the Senate earlier this month. Abraham served on Biden's National Security Council, as well as the Biden-Harris transition team. He was also a top aide in the Obama administration.
