Pentagon chief hosts recognition event for POWs

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III hosts the Pentagon's annual Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) recognition ceremony in the Pentagon Hall of Heroes. 

The secretary highlighted the commitment to honor American service members and shared the story of Army Air Corps Lieutenant Colonel Addison Baker who was hit by an enemy anti-aircraft shell in a low-flying attack on enemy-controlled oil fields in Romania in 1943.

Colonel Baker was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his valor and his name is on the wall in the Hall of Heroes. The secretary said the message and symbol that the POW /MIA flag bears is simple but powerful.
