





Peru's President Pedro Castillo arrived in Congress Friday to hold a meeting its new President, José Williams Zapata. Williams Zapata, a formal general who led the country's army, air force and navy, is known for leading the rescue of 72 people who were held hostage by members of the rebel movement Tupac Amaru at the Japanese Embassy in Lima in 1996.
He replaced Lady Camones, who was voted out on Monday after audio recordings surfaced allegedly revealing conversations about passing a law to benefit her own party. Castillo's Prime Minister Anibal Torres, stated a document outlining how to "resolve the aforementioned instability" was presented to Zapata and other members of Congress during the meeting.
