





The opening of the state-level Natural disaster management basic course (1/2022) was held on September 12 at the Community Centre of the Information and Public Relations Departments in Taunggyi of Shan State.
In his address at the course opening, Chief Minister Dr. Kyaw Tun highlighted the number of natural disasters occurred in Shan State - 224 in the year of 2016-2017, 272 in 2017-2018, 408 in 2018-2019 and 354 in 2019-2020.
It’s on the increase year after year, and it’s necessary to enhance the progress of natural disaster mitigation process. Natural disaster awareness process is being accelerated by using of the State Government’s funds in addition to the Union Budget.
52.80 million Kyats in 2017-2018, 23 million in the 2018 mini budget period, 53.6 million in 2018-2019, 46.6 million in 2019-20, 20 million in 2020-21 and 16.5 million in 2021-22 were spent.
Even though the incidence rates are increasing every year, as the public's ability to cope with and respond to natural disasters has increased, the amount of damage caused by disasters has been effectively reduced, the Chief Minister added.
This state-level Natural disaster management basic course (1/2022) attended by 50 persons from governmental departments and civil society groups is set to be held till the 16th of September.
There, the Chief Minister also enjoyed activities of the students from the No. 7 Basic Education Middle School and presented 100,000 Kyats of cash award for the students.
