Macron on relations with the UK

French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday said Britain was a "friendly, strong, allied nation" whoever their leaders are "and sometimes in spite of them."

Macron was answering a question from journalists in Algiers after British Foreign Secretary and candidate for Prime Minister Liz Truss replied the "jury's out" when asked if Macron was a friend or a foe to Britain at a leadership hustings in Norwich.

"You have more and more liberal, authoritarian democracy, power imbalances. If we are not able between the French and British to say whether we are friends or enemies, the term is not neutral, we are headed towards serious problems," Macron added.
