A Special Representative for Broadband of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration announced an award of 127 million dollars in federal grant money to provide high-speed internet to two tribes in California.

The Yurok and the Hoopa tribes will each receive money to provide high speed internet connections to approximately 2000 homes, businesses and anchor institutions. The project calls for the construction of fiber optic cable into the region as well as fixed wireless internet. The construction of the fiber optic line is expected to create about 200 local jobs in the two-year timeline to build the line.
