





The distribution of Urea fertilizer Steering committe held its meeting at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Steering Committee, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe said that in order to import fertilizers from abroad, it is approviding the Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee and the Ministry of Commerce.
From 11th May to 12th August, over 249 tonnes of Urea and more than 475 tonees of compound fertilizers have been approved. About 177,000 tonnes have been imported, about 115,000 tonnes have been sold for distribution and arrangements will be made to import the remaining fertilizers on time.
The Union Minister stressed the needs for supporting inputs to green gram and summer paddy growers who will conduct the contract farming system, sunflower and other crop growers and arrangements for the arrival of fertilizers to be purchased more, import of fertilizer that are necessary for summer paddy and winter crops, plans to support for sunflower growers in coming October and November and discussion with relevant Ministry to arrange for purchasing of fertilizers with reasonable price.
Officials reported on acquisition of foreign currency according to the recommendations of the steering committee, obtaining the import license, distribution and sales and selling prices, progress of works and urea fertilizer purchasing and distribution.
Officials from the Ministry of Planning and Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and the Agricultural Department reported implementing the tasks in the respective sectors on which the Union Minister coordinated essentials.
