Trudeau, Scholz vow support for democratic ideals

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz took part in a state dinner on Monday in Toronto with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trudeau joked that it was unusual for a foreign leader to visit Canada without also paying a visit to Washington.

The two leaders also vowed to continue to fight for democratic principles around the world. At an earlier news conference, Trudeau said his government is open to easing regulatory requirements for projects to facilitate the export of Canadian natural gas to Europe, but questioned whether a business case exists for such investments.
