According to the statistics of the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF), 2 million tons of rice and broken rice are being exported and currently, 15 million acres of monsoon paddy have been cultivated.
In order to meet the target for this fiscal year, efforts are being made for agricultural production and export volumes. Last July, export of rice and broken rice totaled about 180,000 tons and among them, more than 30,000 tons were exported through the border gates and more than 140,000 tons from sea routes.
Farmer, East Kali Htaw Village, Hlegu District, Zaw Myo Oo said “For the farms within the irrigation system, farmers cultivate the summer paddy after harvesting the monsoon paddy. Mung beans and black grams are grown after harvesting the monsoon paddy in the outside areas of irrigation system.”
According to the Myanmar Rice Federation, the production costs are different depending on the type of rice and cultivated areas. As the rice yields increase, the rice prices can become more attractive to the farmers.
Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, Ye Min Aung said “The price of rice has been increased from 800,000 to 900,000 kyats and one of the Myanmar rice groups, the price of Paw San rice has been increased from 1.5 million to 1.8 million kyats.”
Vice Chairman, Myanmar Rice Federation, Dr. Soe Htun said “60% of export rice went to People’s Republic of China and secondly, we exported to the European countries and Asian countries are the 3rd and also to African countries.”
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, during the 2022-2023 fiscal year, more than 439,000 tons of rice have been exported via border gates and sea routes from April to the end of June and earned more than 158 million USD. Similarly, export market of rice and broken rice are growing with more than 139,000 tons of broken rice worth more than 87 million USD.
2 million tons of rice and broken rice are being exported and plans are being made to earn 700 million USD, it is learnt.
