Fetching high price: Plum Seed price in recorded hike

The prices of plum seeds in Mandalay market have been increasing dramatically due to good demand from China in these days. The price of seeds was only 18,000 kyats per viss in March and it has still increased to 5 times in August.

There are 3 types of plum in Myanmar such as sugar plum, Taiwan plum and sour plum. The plum seeds are processed with grinding machine and exported to China. 

Soe Win Myint said "We exported the plum seeds to the neighboring country of China and we are getting amazing price that we have never seen before. The price of plum seeds has increased to 90,000 kyats per viss in the 3rd week of August. These plums are usually appears in Magway region such as Magway, Chauk, Yenangyaung, Pakokku townships.  Local people pick them up and sell back to the mills and the seeds of plum are being export to China. In Myanmar, the sugar plums and Taiwan plum are planted in farms and sour plums grow in nature."

The pulp of plums obtained as by-products from plum grinding mills are used in plum jam cottage industries and the plum seeds fetch the highest price among beans and pulses that are exported in the foreign markets.
