Upgrading Works: Bagan Cultural Museum goes to Digital

With the guidance of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum under the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs, upgrading works are being undertaken in 32 cultural museums across the nation in Myanmar.

The Bagan cultural museum will be upgraded with digital technology. This museum has been on display for more than 20 years. It was established since 1995 and opened in 1998. There are 6 galleries on the ground floor and 4 galleries on the 1st floor. Many classical and valuable antiques are on display in this museum with amazing demonstration.

Deputy Director, Department of Archaeology and National Museum(Bagan), Nyi Monn said "In general, 8 Great victories of the Buddha (during in his living), various kinds of stupas and 4 former kings of Myanmar who are Anawrahta, Kyansittha, Alaung Sithu and Kya swar are displayed in the main gallery which was the master pieces of the museum. The small models of the palaces are on display in Palaces gallery and the Myazedi stone inscription, 1 dimensional stone inscription and 2 dimensional stone inscriptions are also displayed in the Sa Wi gallery. The living standards of people in ancient Bagan are on display in the Life gallery and 3,887 pagodas’ models in the Architectural gallery."

In addition to the 10 galleries, plans are being made to set up a special exhibition gallery for special events. Repairing process is being made into 2 parts. 1st part is to slightly change and upgrade the original displayed form of items and 2nd part is to go the Bagan cultural museum with digital system such as displaying models, antique items and forms on smart TV with touch screen. Efforts are being made to implement such displays with digital system.

The museums all over the country are opened 6 days in a week except on Monday. The entrance fee is 500 Kyats for Myanmar nationals and 5000 Kyats for Foreigners and the monks, kids and students can come and study the museums with free of charge, it’s learnt.
