Convenient Arrangements: Migrant Workers Being Sent To Thailand Under MOU

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Myanmar and Thailand, migrant workers are being sent legally through the relevant agencies in Myawaddy and Kawthoung Townships.
Arrangements are being undertaken in cooperation with the labor attaches in Ranong of Thailand.
Scanning passports and printing stamps are being done by the Ministry of Immigration and Population and then as arranged by agencies, workers are sent to Ranong.
Workers have been sent via 2 ports in Kawthoung township; Myo Ma and ShweWatwan Ice Mill Bridges.
From 24th May to 10th August, a total of 1,705 workers, 1,064 male and 641 female, have been sent to the Thailand by speed boat as planned by agency.
Assistant Director, Kawthoung Migration Office, Nyi Maung Shwe said “When sending the migrant workers legally. The smart cards for workers are issued at Pinlon Hall of North Dagon Township, Yangon Region and contracts for workers are signed at various locations designated by the head office. According to the permission date of leave, the agency informed to send the workers viaKawthoung-Ranong route. When the workers arrive on the due date according to the notice, scrutinizing has been made for the validity of the passports, OWIC card and contracts of the workers.”
Knowledge sharing is being provided for those who want to work in Thailand.
Those who go abroad under MOU system, they can enjoy full labor rights, and can also ask for help to the relevant agencies and embassy for any difficulties in foreign country.
Assistant Director, Kawthoung Migration Office, Nyi Maung Shwe said “As there are many benefits in MOU system, I want to urge for those who want to work in Thailand to go with MOU system. Plans have been made for workers to be able to go abroad with zero cost. Zero cost means that if the Thai employer connects with the agency according to the labor demand and the workers meet the specific qualifications by employers, they can go to Thailand at zero cost.”
According to the statistics, 1,167 workers have been sent to Thailand at zero cost recently.
