




Implementations are underway to develop hotels and tourism sector in Yangon Region. Currently, in the Region, till 14th August 2022, 315 hotels are reopened and operating as the rate of COVID-19 infection in the country has decreased.
In total, in Yangon Region, there are 493 licensed hotels and guest houses and most hotels suspended their services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nanda Aung, Director, Directorate of Hotels & Tourism (Yangon) said "In Yangon Region, over 170 hotels are still closed. Ministry of Health set quarantine and non-quarantine hotels and the hotels have to follow the rules and procedures to reopen. If hotels want to reopen, they have to report to us, then, we will check them and make inspections to give green light to reopen."
Training is being given to hotel officials and staff for the safety of visitors.
Nanda Aung, Director, Directorate of Hotels & Tourism(Yangon) said "Arrangements are underway to vaccinate hotel staff under the supervision of Yangon region government. Currently, hotels in Yangon receive over 20,000 visitors – among them, over 3,000 are foreign visitors with tourist visa, business visa and other types of visa."
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Yangon Regional Government, Myanmar Tourism Federation, Myanmar Hoteliers Association (Yangon) and other related associations have been making efforts for development of hotels and tourism sector in Yangon.
