To promote direct trade between Myanmar-Bangladesh, authorities are taking steps to run Yangon-Sittway-Chittagong coastal shipping line and arrangements will be made to dock the ships at the 4 ports in Myanmar and 4 ports in Bangladesh, according to Rakhine State Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
AungAung, Secretary, Rakhine State Chamber of Commerce and Industry said “We are giving suggestions to the entrepreneurs to start running the shipping line as quick as possible. We are also discussing what kind of goods can be transported from Rakhine side. The transportation costs will be reduced for traders and the trading can be enhanced. Plan is made to dock at the ports in Yangon, Pathein, Mawlamyaing and Sittway in Myanmar and at four ports in Bangladesh. We hope that it will increase the trade volume and trade revenue.”
Currently, goods from Myanmar are only exported to Teknaf Port in Bangladesh via the border trade camps in Maungdaw and Sittwe of Rakhine State.
