Hundreds of women marched in Sao Paulo on Saturday, calling on voters to support Luiz Inacio da Silva, also known as Lula, in upcoming elections in October and to condemn what they consider a lack of support from President Jair Bolsonaro for policies important to women.
The female voters represent a potential threat to the re-election of Bolsonaro, since they skew towards the leftist policies of Lula and polls show they appear likely to vote against the incumbent president by a large margin.
Lula maintains a lead over Bolsonaro in polls, and analysts believe female voters could be a key constituency for victory in the elections.
