World Elephant Day: Elephants fed with buffet feeds in elephant camps

The World Elephant Day which falls on 12th August was celebrated at each elephant camps opened in the regions and states across the nation by feeding the elephants with buffet feeds, according to the in-charges of the elephant camps.

The World Elephant Day was initiated by the Canadian citizen Film producers Patricia Sims and Thailand based Elephant Reintroduction Foundation on 12th August, 2012 to protect and preserve the elephants. At present, almost 70 Wildlife Organizations are collaborating and supporting the World Elephant Day, said, the In-Charge of Palin Kanthaya Elephant Camp Assistant Manager U Myo Min.

In commemorating the World Elephant Day, the teachers and students from Based Education Sub Middle School in West Palin Kanthaya Village were invited and the Elephant Camp In-Charge U Myo Min talked about the natures of the elephants, District Head Officer of the Information and Public Relations Department Daw San Yu Maw explained about the libraries including National library, University/College Library, special libraries and public libraries.

Then, the Staff Officer of Nyaung-U Township Dry Zone Greening Department U Zaw Min Naing talked about the environmental conservation. Afterward, the queries raised by the students on what they wanted to know were replied by the officers, the students were given the present of stationeries and hosted with launcheon and the elephants in the comps were fed with the buffet feeds.

The World Elephant Day was celebrated in 22 elephant comps in the regions and states and fed the elephants with buffet feeds of fruits and grasses including pine apple, water melon, banana, cucumber, pumpkin, mango, sugar cane, Napier grass, Kans grass, bamboo leaves and corn, it’s reported.
