UN says Gaza humanitarian relief efforts underway

The United Nations is welcoming the announcement of a cease fire in Gaza following renewed fighting between Israel and the Palestinians."The secretary general calls on all sides to observe the cease fire, and he reaffirms the United Nation's commitment to the achievement of a two-state solution based on relevant U.N. resolutions, international law and prior agreements," said spokesman Stephan Dujarric.The U.N. said humanitarian relief efforts are underway with deputy special coordinator, Lynn Hastings dispatched to Gaza where she is assessing the situation.With a cease-fire between Israel and Palestinian holding after nearly three days of violence, Gaza's sole power plant resumed operations. Dujarric says rolling daily power cuts are expected to decline from 20 to 14 hours a day.
