Colombian president and Vice-president Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez took part in a ceremony organized by representatives of Indigenous organizations and supporters.
The ceremony by Indigenous people from Putumayo and Cauca regions was intended to swear the leaders into functions symbolically, but the official ceremony will take place on Sunday.
Petro said he expected his government to be one of "peace," and in turn his administration would wish for people to organize across the country. Márquez is the first Afro-descendant woman to come to office in Colombia.
She is a feminist and renowned environmentalist who will be part of Colombia's first left-wing government. Her presence in the new government will also mark a special emphasis on gender issues, as expressed in her campaign.
