Over 75,000 rubber ducks raced down the Chicago River Thursday to benefit charity. The annual event is coordinated by Special Olympics Chicago and this year they raised nearly $333,000 with 75,005 rubber ducks sponsored.
The sponsor of the duck who wins gets a new Chevy Equinox. Other prizes include a Royal Caribbean cruise and $2,500 cash prize. The organization says proceeds help provide opportunities in competitive sports, health education, leadership and personal development to more than 21,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities across the state.
Special Olympics Illinois athlete, Kyle Tuckey, served as the 2022 Duck Derby Ambassador and held up the winning duck at the finish line. The organization says Tuckey began participating with Special Olympics Illinois 20 years ago, when he was eight.
