Pre-Hispanic Mexican food survives modern times

Many Mexicans struggle to preserve the dishes of their indigenous ancestors that must compete with modern-day foods such as pizza, hamburgers and sugary drinks. The culinary fair promoted traditional Mexican dishes that are increasingly losing floor to modern-day foods. 

Around 50 chefs, restaurateurs and small traders took part in a pre-Hispanic food fair.  Mirian Arista Ortega, a 37-year-old cook who, like her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, has spent a lifetime in the kitchen. She says young people are losing the skills to cook and prepare ancestral products.
